Veteran actress Florence Henderson, best known to a generation of baby boomers as all-American mother Carol Brady in the 1970s sitcom The Brady Bunch, died on Thursday aged 82.

She starred in the ground-breaking television series about a woman with three daughters who married a widower with three sons. The 1969 premier of The 'Brady Bunch was among the first U.S. television shows to focus on a non-traditional family.

On the show, Robert Reed's character, architect Mike Brady, was a widowed father of three boys. Henderson's character Carol Brady was a single mother - the show was vague as to why - who had three daughters. They married in the first episode.

The series made its debut amid cultural tumult in the United States but remained invariably cheery and avoided controversy during its five seasons on the ABC network. It ran during a TV era populated with caustic sitcoms such as 'All in the Family,' 'Maude' and 'Sanford and Son, but was eventually cancelled in 1974.

Following the death of Henderson, here's a look at the other cast members from the iconic TV show:

Florence Henderson spent decades in the iconic role as Carol Brady. Pictured with her TV family: top row: Christopher Knight (Peter), Barry Williams (Greg), Ann B. Davis (Alice); middle row: Eve Plumb (Jan), Florence Henderson (Carol), Robert Reed (Mike), Maureen McCormick (Marcia); bottom row: Susan Olsen (Cindy), Mike Lookinland (Bobby)

Happened

MIKE BRADY

Robert Reed, who trained as a Shakespearean actor, only to gain fame as the father on 'The Brady Bunch. Reed appeared in movies, on Broadway and in several TV shows. He was born in Highland Park, Illinois, studied drama at Northwestern University and attended London's Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts and the University of London. He was nominated for three Emmy Awards, including one for his 1975 work on 'Medical Center,' in which he played a transsexual doctor.

He passed away in died in 1992 at the age of 59; while his cause of death was said to be colon cancer, it later emerged that it was hastened by AIDS. 'There were a few of us who knew that he was HIV positive, and we protected his privacy,' says Henderson told People magazine in 1992.'I really, honestly don't think everyone on the show knew. I never discussed it with anyone except Barry Williams. The others, even if they had known, would have protected his privacy.' Reed had a daughter during a marriage which ended in 1959.

Susan Olsen revealed in 2015 that the children knew that Robert was gay, but respected his decision to keep his sexuality a secret. 'He never meant for us to know. He never ever had any intentions of coming out of the closet and I think he might have been mortified to know that we knew,' Susan told Oprah's Where Are They now.

Protective: Florence knew her TV husband Robert Reed, pictured in 1989, had HIV while on the show and kept it secret

MARCIA BRADY

Maureen McCormick went to a dark place after playing the oldest girl on The Brady Bunch. In her memoir Here's the Story: Surviving Marcia Brady And Finding My True Voice, she opens up about her battle with cocaine addiction, trading sex for drugs, two abortions and debauched nights partying at the Playboy mansion. She says: 'I was hiding the reality of my life behind the unreal perfection of Marcia Brady.' She also chronicled her romance with TV sibling Barry Williams, who played Greg Brady, and her dalliances with singer Michael Jackson and actor Steve Martin. After interventions, stints in rehab and experimental therapies, McCormick began getting sober in 1985 when she married actor Michael Cummings, with whom she has a daughter, Natalie.

In terms of her on-screen career, she co-starred in the 1980 film 'The Idolmaker,' toured as Wendy Darling in 'Peter Pan' and Betty Rizzo in 'Grease,' and has released several albums, including 'When You Get a Little Lonely.' She played country singer Barbara Mandrell in the TV biopic 'Get to the Heart: The Barbara Mandrell Story. Just three days before her death, Henderson made an appearance at 'Dancing With the Stars' to support McCormick, who was competing on the show.

Marcia, Marcia, Marcia: Maureen McCormick appeared on the latest series of Dancing With The Stars

JAN BRADY

Eve Plumb broke from her sweet image immediately after 'The Brady Bunch' ended by starring as a 15-year-old prostitute in 'Dawn: Portrait of a Teenage Runaway' in 1976. She's also become a painter, with gallery showings around the country. Her TV credits include guest spots on everything from 'One Day at a Time' to 'Murder, She Wrote,' and from 'The Love Boat' to 'Fantasy Island.' In the 1990s, she played the mother on the Judy Blume-based series 'Fudge,' and last January, appeared in the television special 'Grease: Live!'

She recently sold a Malibu home she bought when she was 11 years old for $3.9 million. She bought property for $55,300 in 1969, which is equivalent to around $360,000 in today's economy.

Reunion in 2008: Mike Lookinland (Bobby), Susan Olsen (Cindy), Christopher Knight (Peter), Eve Plumb (Jan) and Barry Williams (Greg) pose on the set of Trivial Pursuit: America Plays

CINDY BRADY

Before she was the 'youngest one, in curls,' Susan Olsen sang on 'The Pat Boone Show' and had a bit part in an Elvis Presley movie, 'The Trouble With Girls.' As an adult, she studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and went on to become a radio talk show host, an artist, a designer who worked with Converse on their glow-in-the-dark sneakers, and an animal-welfare advocate. She co-wrote 'Love to Love You Bradys' — a coffee table book about the horrifically bad 'Brady Bunch Variety Hour' — and has a son diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome.

Susan also has a credit for working in the porn industry - she did the sound effects for Love Probe From A Warm Planet using a synthasier.

She and her husband are hydroponic marijuana growers. She said last year: 'I have never really enjoyed smoking it, it makes me very paranoid. But it was my husband's idea.'

She admits she had a crush on her TV sibling Mike Lookinland, who played Bobby Brady. She said: 'We used to make out in the doghouse when we were nine.'

Youngest one, in curls: Susan Olsen and her husband are hydroponic marijuana growers

GREG BRADY

As a young child, actor Barry Williams appeared on TV shows such as 'Dragnet,' 'Mission: Impossible' and 'The Mod Squad.' At 14, he got the role of the eldest boy on 'The Brady Bunch.' Fresh off the series, he landed the lead in a road production of the musical 'Pippin,' put out the album of covers called 'The Return of Johnny Bravo' and became a radio host. He also co-wrote the 1992 book 'Growing Up Brady: I Was A Teenage Greg,' which stripped the saccharine veneer off one of TV's legendary families and revealed the hardwood hijinks underneath, including affairs and drunkenness. He admitted to being stoned on set.

He enjoyed a romance with McCormick, his TV sister, during filming and admitted he asked his TV mom Florence Henderson out on a date when he was 15. In recent years he pursed a music career in Missouri. Last year his ex girlfriend of seven years Elizabeth Kennedy branded him a dead beat dad for abandoning their daughter Samantha, who is now four years old. Last year he caused controversy by saying he would consider going transgender for publicity.

What Happen To The Cast Of Alice

PETER BRADY

Christopher Knight was doing commercials at the age of 7 and landed the part of the middle Brady brother at age 11. After the show ended, he went on to become a businessman and enjoyed a semi-resurgence in Hollywood throughout the 2000s by appearing on reality shows including 'Celebrity Family Feud.' While on season four of 'The Surreal Life' in 2004, Knight met and fell in love with 2003 'America's Next Top Model' champion, Adrianne Curry, and the couple starred in their own spinoff reality show, 'My Fair Brady.' In 2011, on the five-year anniversary of their wedding, the stars called it quits. There were signs that there was perhaps trouble in paradise monts earlier when Curry appeared on the Howard Stern show. She told the shock jock that she took to Twitter because she liked the attention after being 'unsatisfied' at home. BOBBY BRADY

Born with strawberry-blonde hair, Mike Lookinland's locks were dyed dark brown so he'd look more like a Brady. After 'The Brady Bunch' ended, Lookinland battled alcoholism and found a fulfilling role on the other side of the camera. He went to the University of Utah and became a camera technician for almost 20 years, including shooting the TV series 'Everwood' and the film 'Way of the Gun,' starring James Caan. Later, Lookinland switched careers completely and now makes concrete countertops for a living.

ALICE NELSON

Emmy-winning actress Ann B. Davis, who became the country's favorite and most famous housekeeper on 'The Brady Bunch,' died in 2014 at age 88. More than a decade before playing Alice, Davis was the razor-tongued secretary on another stalwart TV sitcom, 'The Bob Cummings Show,' which brought her two Emmys. Over the years, she also appeared on Broadway and in occasional movies. In 1965-66, she played a gym teacher at an exclusive girls' school in 'The John Forsythe Show.'
